Spiritual enquiry exercise

This spiritual enquiry exercise need only take 30 seconds and should be practiced in private

The first 15 seconds uses the visualisation from the previous page to automatically enter the “in-the-zone state” and pause the Sense of Self.

To turn this into a spiritual exercise requires an extra step: The focus on visualisation is dropped allowing pure consciousness to be experienced for a few seconds.

The Sense of Self will then spring back into action. In our absence a brief excursion to the infinite has been experienced. The memory of this trip will remain, and there will probably be the desire to repeat it! The cumulative effect is called inner peace and happiness.

The Exercise

1)  Physically adopt the tennis stance and use the visualisation to enter the in-the-zone state. Keep your eyes open. The Sense of Self will pause and the mind clear of thoughts as the body becomes tensed and primed for instant instinctive reaction. Hold this visualisation for a few seconds…

2)  Now gradually stand upright while releasing the visualisation and relaxing the physical tension, but keeping in the zone. By dropping the emphasis on instant instinctive reaction what remains is now only pure consciousness. Quietly look around and observe the world while the Sense of Self is still paused.

After a few seconds the the Sense of Self will automatically spring back into action! With enough practice the experience of pure consciousness can be maintained for a few minutes.

Practice the exercise only until you get the knack of “stilling the mind”. Once you’ve got the hang of it you’ll find that switching into pure consciousness is effortless. It’s a spiritually uplifting high that you will want to repeat!
